Struggling Charlton became the latest victims of high-flying Derby County on Saturday.
Addicks lost 2-0 at the Valley as former England manager Steve McClaren chalked up his sixth successive win in charge of the Rams, who are up to fourth in the Championship.
Chris Powell’s Charlton have now lost five consecutive games and are 21st, just a point clear of the relegation zone.
Addicks made a bright start, with Dale Stephens volleying over but Derby went in front from Jamie Ward’s deflected free-kick after 32 minutes.
Stephens went close to an equaliser early in the second half, while Michael Morrison’s header dropped wide and Lee Grant denied substitute Simon Church.
But Derby, who hit the bar through Ward, clinched the points three minutes from time as Craig Bryson took advantage of space at the back to add the visitors’ second.
