Charlton 1 Plymouth 2
CHARLTON suffered a second consecutive defeat in four days as Plymouth took their unbeaten home record on a night of controversy that saw 10 players cautioned by referee Rob Styles.
Manager Alan Pardew strode on to the pitch at the end to confront the Hampshire official but refused to disclose what he said.
"All I will say is that there is a cliche about Premier League referees coming down to the Championsip.
"It's been said that maybe the stage isn't big enough for them. I don't know.
"You could say that the cliche is at his door tonight because the whistle never stopped. It was such a frustrating night.
"An old referee once told me that the best referees are never noticed.
"But I can't hide from the fact that we've had two bad results while our goalkeeper has hardly been tested.
"However, we've let in two soft goals and our concentration levels must improve."
Plymouth made a high tempo start to the game and took a sixth minute lead through Sylvan Ebanks-Blake.
Charlton equalised fortuitously in the 12th minute when Danny Mills' shot struck a post and rebounded off Plymouth goalkeeper Luke McCormick and into the goal.
Skipper Barry Hayles won the points for Argyle in the 38th minute after a mistake by Izale McLeod put the visitors on the attack.
Charlton dominated the second half but seldom tested McCormick.
Charlton's Svetoslav Todorov, McLeod, Madjid Bougherra, Andy Reid, Danny Mills and Sam Sodje were all cautioned.
Argyle's Hayles, Ebanks-Blake, Lee Martin and Paul Connolly were also cautioned.
Charlton now face the prospect of disciplinary action from the Football Association.
Todorov, who was carried off on a stretcher in the 31st minute, was taken to hospital for a scan.
