Addicks must face FA over disciplinary record

CHARLTON face fines in excess of £10,000 when they appear before a Football Association disciplinary commission on November 22 to explain a worsening disciplinary record.

The Addicks, who regularly topped the Barclays Premier Fair Play League, have been charged with failing to control their players in the 2-1 win at Hull on October 2.

Since then, the club have had six players cautioned in the 2-1 home defeat by Plymouth and in Saturday’s 1-0 win at Southampton.

Any club having six players cautioned in a match must automatically answer to the FA.

The FA have also asked manager Alan Pardew to explain why he went on to the pitch at Hull where Addicks' midfielder Lloyd Sam and Hull skipper Ian Ashbee were sent off in a mass first half brawl.

Pardew, who was strongly criticised by Hull manager Phil Brown for his actions, explained afterwards: "I went on to the field to separate Jonathan Fortune and Hull's Dean Windass."

Referee Rob Styles cautioned Svetoslav Todorov, Izale McLeod. Madjid Bougherra, skipper Andy Mills, Danny Mills and Sam Sodje against Plymouth.

Saturday's referee, Keith Hill, sent-off Jose Semedo for a second caution and booked Sam, Chris Iwelumo, Zheng Zhi, Jerome Thomas and Yassin Moutaouakil.

Fines for having six players cautioned in a match are doubled on each occasion, leaving the Addicks out of pocket and facing another big fine for the misdemeanours at Hull.

Pardew and Charlton chief executive Peter Varney will represent the club at Soho Square.

Mr Varney said: "This is the first time we as a club have been ordered to appear before a Football Association disciplinary commission.

"It will be a new experience. Whatever happens there is no vehicle for appeal."
