CHARLTON'S players felt the backlash of manager Alan Pardew's fury after Saturday's 5-3 defeat at Blackpool when all the club's professionals were placed on standby to play for the reserves in tonight's Pontin's Holidays Combination Central match at Southampton.

Pardew confirmed: "I will play all the professionals against Southampton because I need to know who is mentally strong enough for our remaining 12 games."
