CHARLTON have now picked up just six points from a possible 21 as their promotion campaign was derailed further at Burnley on Tuesday night.

Wade Elliott’s second half strike at Turfmoor condemned Alan Pardew’s men to their second consecutive defeat – leaving them with one win in seven Championship games.

Addicks boss Alan Pardew said: “I feel real sympathy for the players, they gave everything.

“It’s a disappointed dressing room because we felt we played a very good game and have lost to an absolute wonder goal.

“Sometimes you have to accept defeat but the performance level will make us much stronger for Saturday.”

Charlton were much-changed from the side beaten by Preston with Ben Thatcher, Jose Semedo, Jerome Thomas and Andy Gray, against his former employers, given starts. However, only Darren Ambrose gave Burnley keeper Gabor Kiraly any cause for alarm with a low shot on 34 minutes.

The scores were level at the break and soon after Gray and Sam Sodje missed chances when well placed.

Elliott made the Addicks pay for a night of wayward finishing with his winner on the hour.
