Charlton made the most of their second chance against Doncaster Rovers at the Valley on Tuesday night.

Rovers were leading 3-1 at half-time when the original fixture in August was abandoned due to a waterlogged pitch.

The rearranged match went Charlton's way as Chris Powell's side moved up to 17th in the Championship, six points clear of the relegation zone.

Addicks lost keeper Ben Hamer to injury in the warm-up, leading to a debut for Ben Alnwick.

He had a quiet night as Charlton dominated with early chances for Simon Church and Yann Kermorgant, who hit the post.

Addicks went in front on 39 minutes with a superb first-time volley by Dale Stephens from 25 yards.

Ex-Manchester United striker Federico Macheda blazed over for Doncaster before Church made amends for missed chances by scoring Charlton's second on the hour.

He collected Kermorgant's through ball and beat the offside trap to find the bottom corner.
