CHARLTON signed Republic of Ireland midfielder Andy Reid from Tottenham on Wednesday afternoon in a deal that could be worth up to £3million.

The 24-year-old, who signed a four-year contract, became the Addicks’ second new recruit of the week following goalkeeper Scott Carson’s move from Liverpool on a season long loan.

Addicks boss Iain Dowie, who made Reid his eighth summer signing, said: "He is a player of immense quality and potential, and I believe this will be a very good acquisition for the club."

A foot injury is likely to keep Reid out of the starting line-up in Saturday’s Premiership opener at West Ham.
