Wolves v Charlton
MANAGER Alan Pardew will not repeat the mistake of resting captain Andy Reid on his return from international duty with the Republic of Ireland when Charlton face Wolves on Saturday at Molineux.
Reid, the Addicks’ inspirational midfield playmaker, played in the Group D matches against Germany and Cyprus, despite fears that he had sustained an ankle injury.
On his return from international duty in September, Reid was named among the substitutes at Colchester.
Pardew explained: "We left him out at Colchester because we felt he needed a rest. But at 2-0 down we had to bring him on at half-time to resurrect us.
"So I’m keen not to make that mistake again. If Andy feels up it, he will play."
Pardew looks set to name an unchanged side with Chris Powell continuing to deputise for long-term injury casualty Ben Thatcher.
Wolves are one of the Championship’s promotion contenders and Pardew is not surprised to see them among the early pace-setters.
"I’m pleased with the way we’ve shaped up after 10 games, so I’m not going to say that Saturday’s outcome will be a yardstick for our season," he said.
"If Wolves win on Saturday they will be a point behind us, so they are a contender that you want to knock back. We’re looking to get a positive response. These are the kind of games when you’re going to be tested."
Charlton could face Wolves’ striker Freddy Eastwood whom Pardew admitted trying to sign in the summer from Southend.
"I was interested in bringing Freddy here because he was a local guy doing very well and would only progress as a player. But our interest was a bit eleventh hour so by that time he had made up his mind to join Wolves."
