CHARLTON could parade as many as six new signings when the new Premiership season kicks off on August 14.
In addition to snapping up Danish international goalkeeper Stephan Anderson for £721,000 from FC Copenhagen, manager Alan Curbishley has disclosed that another five players are heading for The Valley as he digs into an estimated £16m transfer kitty.
Two more will be announced on July 1, when existing contracts expire, with another three to follow.
He said: “I’ve signed three players, one which is known, Stephan Anderson, and there are two others which will be announced on July 1.
“I want to sign three others. I want to have six new players and if there is any money left I will bring in a young player.
“I noticed the new Chelsea manager, Jose Mourinho, has said he only wants to work with 21 people because it breeds team spirit. I don’t know about that. But we had 24 players last season and we needed every single one.”
He added: “I don’t think too much business will be done until after the Euro Championships. Then we could see some activity.
“Although we must strive to improve the squad while keeping an even keel financially, I believe we are now more attractive to players than perhaps we think. I have been surprised by the calibre players who want to come to this club.”
Charlton are thought to have secured the Morocco international Talal El Karkouri from Paris St Germain as a replacement for the retired Richard Rufus.
The club have also been linked with West Ham's Michael Carrick, Joey Barton of Manchester City, former Arsenal striker Marc Overmars, Cardiff’s Robert Earnshaw and PSV Eindhoven striker Mateja Kezman. A week ago Chelsea rejected their overtures to take Joe Cole on loan.
Curbishley has dismissed reports linking Charlton with Arsenal striker Nwankwo Kanu.
