Charlton striker James Walker has completed his long and protracted move to League 1 Southend following a successful spell on loan in which he scored four goals in 14 appearances.
Walker, the Addicks' Young Player of the Year in 2006-07, was set to sign for the Shrimpers during the January transfer window but a heart murmur, detected during his medical, resulted in him moving on loan.
Southend will pay an initial six figure fee for Walker with more money to follow based on appearances.
Walker, 20, had a year of his present deal remaining. A product of Charlton's youth scheme, he was capped at England Under-17, Under-18 and Under-19 level.
