Charlton’s miserable month ended in defeat against Burnley on Saturday.
The Addicks picked up just one point during September and their 3-0 loss at Turf Moor was their third in a row, leaving them 20th in the Championship.
Boss Chris Powell was looking for a response after losing 1-0 to London rivals Millwall the previous weekend but he didn’t get a positive one.
Simon Church had an early chance for Charlton but Danny Ings volleyed the home side ahead late in the first half, giving them the advantage heading into the break. It was Ings’ 10th goal of the season.
Callum Harriott fired over early on in the second half for Charlton before Burnley’s Sam Vokes added the home side’s second after 67 minutes.
The same player wrapped up the win four minutes from time, with another volleyed effort from a corner.
While Burnley climbed to second place, it’s a different tale for struggling Charlton.
Powell said: “We’re in a tough situation but we’ll have to find a way through it.
“We’ve looked at a few different ways of playing but the players, myself and my staff have to turn it around.”
