CHARLTON are in danger of descending from their traditional end of season slump into total freefall.

The Addicks have won just one of the last 12 league games and have gone from being in contention for a European place to struggling to finish in the top half of the table.

With Chelsea next up at Stamford Bridge and Crystal Palce visiting The Valley on the final day of the season needing points to escape relegation, Alan Curbishley's side appear to have their work cut out to stop the slide. This was Charlton's seventh four-goal defeat of the season.

Paul Scholes put United ahead on 34 minutes and Darren Fletcher made it 2-0 just before the break. Alan Smith added to Charlton's misery on 62 minutes and Wayne Rooney completed the agony five minutes later.
