Addicks' women 'face complete shutdown'

CHARLTON are set announce the closure of their entire women's section as a cost-saving measure following their relegation from the Premiership, it has been reported.

Chief executive Peter Varney said on Friday that relegation to the Championship had resulted in a "significant level of cuts in all areas of the club's operations".

Now the BBC has reported that the female senior teams, academy and centre of excellence will be axed.

Mr Varney said a further statement would be made this week to announce which operations were "to be closed down or operated on a restricted basis".
