CHARLTON’S Academy youngsters treated supporters to a master class of clinical finishing as they swept aside Sheffield United 6-0 to reach the fifth round of the FA Youth Cup at The Valley on Wednesday night.

At the final whistle, the crowd of 1,369 gave the team a deserved standing ovation after a scintillating performance that celebrated in style Charlton’s first home tie in the competition for more than four years.

Once Rashid Yussuff opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a low 20-yard drive from a chance created by skipper Scott Wagstaff, Charlton showed the young Blades no mercy.

Wagstaff set up the first of Jonjo Shelvey’s two goals in the 30th minute before the midfielder made it 3-0 nine minutes later. When United right-back Kyle Walker fouled Ben Godfrey in the 40th minute, Danny Uchechi scored the resulting penalty.

Godfrey made it 5-0 in the 48th minute and rounded off the scoring with a second in the 63rd.

Charlton will be at home to Swindon or Middlesbrough in the fifth round.
