Martin Allen is backing his “rejects” to show what they can do in League 1 this season.
Gills boss Allen has made Priestfield into a home for several players who were not wanted by some of their league rivals.
The likes of Stuart Nelson, Leon Legge, Charlie Allen, Myles Weston, Antonio German and Cody McDonald have all been released by their former clubs.
Allen has experienced being snubbed himself and sees that as something which can drive his team on next season.
He said: “All of our players are rejects, been kicked out. Half of them have come from Brentford, not good enough. Cody came from Coventry, not good enough. Me from loads of clubs, not good enough.
“Can you just imagine what it’s going to be like? We are all rejects. Nelson, not good enough, Fish, not good enough. We play all these teams and it’s going to be fantastic.”
The Gills boss is still keen on adding more players to his squad and will meet with Paul Scally to discuss his targets, once the chairman returns from holiday.
The Gills had been keen to off-load some players to free up cash in the transfer budget but no players have so far left. Allen could well be looking to add more experience to his defence, with only young players supporting his first-choice backline.
