Gillingham completed their first signing of the summer on Monday with the arrival of midfielder Amine Linganzi from Accrington.
But boss Martin Allen has warned fans that football’s holiday season means there is unlikely to be a flurry of new arrivals.
He said: “I can understand all the supporters wanting to know, not just at our club but at all clubs. They are all hoping that a new signing is going to come out now.
“But there are a lot of managers away and a lot of players away on holiday.
“There are plenty of players out there to choose from but the deals have to be right financially for the football club.
“It is a matter of asking questions, talking to people and then seeing if we can improve what we have already got, that’s the key. It is the process you have to go through.”
The Gills could free up space in the squad and room in the playing budget with the departures of Charlie Lee and Adam Birchall but neither have so far been made offers by other clubs since being transfer-listed.
