Brentford 2 Gillingham 1
GILLINGHAM are trailing Brentford at the break despite enjoying a one-man advantage.
The game sprung into life in the 24th minute when striker Gary Mulligan broke through and was brought down by the advancing goalkeeper Clark Masters. A penalty was given and Masters received his marching orders for the professional foul.
Skipper Mike Flynn kept his cool to beat substitute midfielder John Mousinho from the spot for his fifth goal of the campaign.
But the 10 men of Brentford upped their game and were level on 36 minutes when captain Matt Heywood was left unmarked at the far post to head home Gavin Tomlin's cross.
Flynn thought he had put the visitors back in front five minutes before the break, but his effort was ruled out for offside.
The home side took the lead on the stroke of half-time when more poor defending from Gillingham allowed substitute Callum Willock to net.
Gillingham: Flinders, Jupp, Cox, Johnson, Jackman, Spiller, Crofts, Flynn, Easton, Ndumbu-Nsungu, Mulligan.
Subs: Howell, Clohessy, Stone, McDonald, Savage.
