In the week his contract extension at Kent was confirmed, head coach Jimmy Adams is hoping to get further backing from the club to help his side challenge for honours next season.

The former West Indian skipper will begin his fourth season in charge next April with the returning Joe Denly at his disposal after his return to the club from Middlesex was confirmed on Monday.

Adams has immediately turned his thoughts to bolstering his side with an overseas player in 2015, with the club believed to be looking at a front-line pace bowler to follow in the footsteps of Australian Doug Bollinger this summer.

Adams revealed: “We’re at the point where (club officials) want us to go back to them and say ‘this is where we want to go - this is what we think will make us a stronger unit next year.’

“We’re certainly going to make recommendations on how we see things going forward and I’m hoping there will be some sort of support there resource-wise to back up our recommendations.

“I think we’ll know for sure in the next couple of weeks if we can follow through on them. Based on what happened this year I’d expect a certain level of support. I’ve not heard otherwise. We’ll see.”

Adams also heralded the recapture of Denly, plus an extended deal for Brendan Nash and another year of captaincy for Rob Key, as the latest positive signs for the club.

He said: “We saw signs this year, really good signs, and the fact that guys are coming here means people see a future here. You need guys need to think that if they turn it on on the park they’ll get, not just results, but will see Kent going in the right direction.”

He added: “There’s a huge amount of positive energy floating around. I can feel it. The fact that you have players getting international exposure and feeling they can get it here is big. I’d like to transform that into better performances, a more consistent team and trophies.”

Of his new deal, Adams added: “I am delighted and myself and the support staff want to reward the faith the club have shown in us with success over the coming years. We have a good group of players and I am hoping the emerging talent will continue their development alongside a core of experienced players.”
