Kent coach Jimmy Adams can’t wait to see his squad in match conditions for the first time this season.
After 10 days of pre-season training at The Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence, Adams is raring to go and said: “Everyone looks forward to this time of year. Everyone came through their fitness assessments with flying colours and everyone is fit and raring to go.”
Kent will host Durham in a 50-over friendly at Canterbury on Monday and two t20 games the following day before a two-day friendly at Essex starting on April 3. The three-day First Class match against Loughborough MCCU will begin on April 7 with the LV= County Championship Division 2 campaign starting at Worcester on April 13.
Adams said: “It’s an important time to get bodies right and minds right and plan how we want to go forward. It gives us the chance to see players playing in conditions and helps us with our planning.”
The former West Indies skipper claimed he had not thought about his starting line-up for the opening Championship game and added: “It’s too early to talk about that. Maybe with a week to go we’ll start talking ideas and see where we are.
“There are players we expect to play but there’s enough healthy competition for places here.
Kent spinner James Tredwell is on England duty at the ICC World t20 in Bangladesh, where England lost a storm-hit game by nine runs to New Zealand on Saturday, using the Duckworth-Lewis method in Chittagong.
England face must-win games against Sri Lanka on Thursday, 1.30pm GMT, South Africa on Saturday (1.30pm) and the Netherlands on Monday (10.30am) if they are to reach the knockout stages.
