KENT boxer Johnny Armour will have to go into unknown territory for the first time if he is to reclaim the Commonwealth title he first won 12 years ago.

Armour, from Chatham, will face Dale Robinson in his native Huddersfield on December 17 as he looks to get his career back on track.

Armour won the Commonwealth belt against Ndabe Dubo in April 1992 and held it until 1995 when he was forced to give up the Commonwealth and European belts after he was sent to prison for assault.

But despite fighting away from the South East for the first time, Armour is promising to make it a short night.

He said: “I’d fight him anywhere. I’m just itching to get in there. I couldn’t turn this down because if I don’t get in now, I’ll never get back in the ring.

“Fighting in front of his fans puts a bit more pressure on me and I know that I won’t have as much support as I would have if I’d have been fighting in London.

“But he’s under pressure to perform in front of his own fans and I’m looking to back him up and keep them quiet early on.”

Armour, the former WBU bantamweight champion, knows that Robinson will provide a stern challenge but is confident he can pass the test.

He added: “He’s a game fighter but I’m working on power shots and I’ll be going up there to stop him. I’ve got a point to prove to people who think I’m too old. I’ll prove I’m not too old and that I’m still a champion.”
