Skipper Adam Barrett is determined to put an end to the constant relegation talk.

And he knows the quickest way to do that is to bounce back on Friday with a win over Tranmere.

He said: “There is pressure mounting on us, there is no doubt about that.

“We have to put that aside and pull together. We were disappointed last weekend but now we have to move forward. We can’t dwell on that and have to look for this weekend now.

“It’s a massive weekend for the club, for the players and everyone. We need to make sure we can get the points to secure our place in this division for next year. Until you are mathematically safe, you are not safe and we are not the only ones.

“Those probably from 12th downwards are still in it. We have to fight and scrap. One win will probably be enough but you have to go and get that win. It’s easy talking about it.

“We don’t want to keep talking about relegation because it adds more pressure. We are five clear and want to make sure we stay there.

“Tranmere are coming here and it will be huge. That five-point gap might be enough but we don’t want to rely on other teams."

Barrett, 34, knows the team need to put on a far better performance than last time out, when they lost 5-1 at Leyton Orient on Saturday.

He said: “That wasn’t good enough. They got the first and then the second with a good strike and it just killed us.

“We looked like a team low on confidence and a team struggling. It was a difficult game. We let down the fans and have to try and put that right."
