Striker Adebayo Akinfenwa has joined League 2 AFC Wimbledon.
The front-man rejected a one-year contract offer from the Gills last month.
Akinfenwa, 32, played 37 games for the Gills last season in what was his second spell for the club.
He had previously pulled the Gillingham shirt on for the 2010/11 season, where he scored 11 goals in 46 appearances, forming a lethal partnership with Cody McDonald.
Wimbledon struggled last season, narrowly missing out on relegation to the Conference.
“I’m not trying to be arrogant, but there were quite a few clubs aiming for my signature,” said the big striker, who was a Dons target last summer.
“What the manager said to me last year was massive. He could not give me League 1 football last season but it made it an easier decision this time around.
“It was his vision and the way that he wants to play football that influenced my decision. I want to play well for him and for the club.”
The Dons were promoted into the Football League after a shoot-out victory against Luton Town. Gills striker Danny Kedwell scored the crucial spot-kick.
“For this club to come back into the Football League is a beautiful story,” said Akinfenwa.
“I think AFC Wimbledon and Akinfenwa fit well together. I’m looking forward to it and let’s do something great.”
