Cody McDonald has joined Gillingham for a third time after agreeing a two-year deal.

The 27-year-old striker scored four goals in seven games for the Gills last season on loan from Coventry and he has now returned on a permanent basis.

McDonald teams up again with Adebayo Akinfewa, his strike partner during his first spell at Priestfield in 2010/11, after Akinfenwa returned to the club last week.

On loan from Norwich that season, McDonald bagged 25 goals for Gillingham before returning to the Canaries and then joining Coventry for an undisclosed fee in August 2011.

He found the net four times for the Sky Blues in 2011/12 and turned out 24 times for the League 1 club last season.

Gills boss Martin Allen said: "Cody is a match winner, he scores goals and in his loan period, on and off the field, he conducts himself in the right way.

"He works hard and Mr Scally has worked for the last couple of months to get this deal done.

"Last time here he got 26 goals in one season and this time he will be looking for 30!"

McDonald, who began his career at Witham Town, joined Dartford in October 2008. He went on to score 19 times in 20 appearances during his four months with the Darts before Norwich took him on trial.
