CHARLTON have loaned young winger Alistair John to League 1 club Brighton and Hove Albion for a month.

John has yet to make a first team appearance for the Addicks.

Meanwhile, manager Les Reed confirmed that the club have been assessing former China captain Zheng Zhi who trained with the squad on Thursday before leaving to play in the Asian Games in Quatar.

He was recommended to Charlton by former Maidstone United manager Bobby Houghton, formerly coach of the China national side.

Reed said: "We were given the opportunity to look at Zheng Zhi who plays for China’s national champions and is an international.

"He was a full-back who’s made a successful switch into midfield. The Asian Games gives us the chance to monitor him and then pick up the reins after they are over."
