BROADSTAIRS slipped into the bottom two of the Shepherd Neame Kent League first division on Saturday after finishing on the wrong end of a losing draw at home to Folkestone.

Andy Marshall claimed a five-wicket haul as Folkestone were dismissed for 186 but in reply Broadstairs struggled to 101-9.

After putting Folkestone in, Broadstairs made two early breakthroughs courtesy of Stuart Wiseman, who removed Himanshu Waingankar for four and Sher Khanagha for a single.

Scott Narraway then claimed the wickets of Luke Samarasinghe (32) at 69 and Stewart Graham (7) at 83-4, before Craig Coleman and Laurence Ward rebuilt the innings with a stand of 87.

The partnership was ended when Coleman (83) became the first of Marshall’s victims, and next ball, Daniel Clark went without scoring.

Andy Bray and Luke Sage both then fell cheaply to Marshall, with John Champion being run out before Ward (49) was last out, stumped by Neil Brennan off Marshall to give the Thanet man figures of 5-37 in 8.4 overs.

Broadstairs quickly hit trouble in reply, losing both openers with only 14 on the board.

Michael Ross (13), Scott Narraway (16) and Brennan (23) all made starts, but of the other batsman ony Wiseman (10 not out) reached double figures as they hung on for a draw, having slumped to 88-8.

Broadstairs are away to Bexley on Saturday.
