Grant Sheen top-scored for Bromley with 53

BROMLEY Cricket Club's hopes of reaching a second major final were ended when they suffered a narrow one-run defeat at Blackheath in the Evening Standard Trophy semi-finals on Sunday.

Blackheath batted first and posted a total of 177 with Nadeem Shahid enjoying most success with the ball in taking 3-32 for Bromley.

In reply, Bromley lost openers Leo Taylor and Shahid in quick succession but recovered from 2-2 thanks to a 84-run third wicket partnership from Grant Sheen (53) and former Kent player Alan Wells (45).

Ruel Braithwaite added 26 further down the order but the final two batsmen, James Butterfill and Michael Bluett, were run out as Bromley desperately tried to reach their target.

Bromley now turn their attention to the Cockspur Cup final at Lord's on Tuesday, September 11 when they face Kibworth.
