Charlton Athletic 2 Portsmouth 1
TWO late goals saw Charlton claim their first win in five games at the expense of relegation-threatened Portsmouth at The Valley on Monday.
In-form Pompey twice went close through skipper Gary O’Neill and Benjani Mwaruwari before Argentina international midfielder Andres D’Alessandro produced a moment of brilliance to give them the lead in the 40th minute.
D’Alessandro beat Chris Powell down the Charlton right before cutting inside and sending an unstoppable left-foot shot into the far top corner.
But the Addicks, who had lost Marcus Bent, Jonathan Spector and Jerome Thomas through injury by the start of the second half, rallied and Bryan Hughes smashed home from close range to equalise with 14 minutes to play.
And the comeback was complete six minutes later when top scorer Darren Bent drilled in the winner.
Portsmouth almost snatched a point at the death through Benjani but Charlton held on for a hard-earned three points.
