GOLF clubs in Kent are being invited to support a world record bid, and help children’s charities.
Club professional Glenn Turner is on course to set a record for the most 18-hole courses played in one year.
His attempt, being followed by the Guinness Book of Records, started in Scotland in April, and is due to finish in the south east. Dates are needed in southern England in November and March.
Six months into the attempt, Turner had already played 192 courses in Scotland and the north, and is aiming to raise about £1million for the Association of Children’s Hospices, and the Rhys Daniels Trust, which supports the families of sick children.
Former Scotland footballers Kenny Dalglish and Andy Gray, 1985 snooker world champion Dennis Taylor and comedian Bobby Davro are among celebrities playing with Turner during his tour.
Turner, who lives Preston, and is professional at Charnock Richard Golf Club, said: "The record for most holes played in a 12-month period is held by an American and he did all those on one course.
"I asked Guinness if there was a world record for the most 18-hole golf courses in 12 months but it will actually be a new world record – there is not an existing one for what I am going to do."
He aims to complete a minimum of 365 courses and up to 500.
Any golf clubs willing to host a leg of the tour may contact Turner on 07764 157660; e-mail glenn@worldrecordgolftour.co.uk; or visit the website www.worldrecordgolftour.co.uk for more details.
Anyone wishing to donate to his charities may text the word golf to 64446, which will cost £1.
