KENT’S veteran cricketers have walked away with the national title, comfortably beating Lancashire in Blackpool.
The team won the National, 50-plus Championships with an eight-wicket victory on Sunday.
Kent’s bowlers restricted the Lancastrians to 179 for eight on the Stanley Park wicket, with Staplehurst’s Colin Breed taking two for 36.
Dennis Chambers kept the batsmen quiet with none for 19 from nine overs in the 45-over game.
In response, Folkestone and Gravesend batting legend Jimmy Howgeggo starred with an unbeaten 92. He featured in an opening stand of 123 with Keith Wooding before Chris Jobling and Howgeggo finished the job, Jobling stroking a stylish 28 not.
Kent beat Surrey, Sussex, Essex and Middlesex in the early rounds of the competition, Cheshire in the quarter-finals and Warwickshire in the semi-final.
The over-50s team is on roll, having won 46 of its last 50 matches. The team will meet Sussex in the Home Counties Seniors Championship on Sunday, at Gore Court’s ground in Sittingbourne.
