FORMER Charlton manager Alan Curbishley was unveiled as the new manager of West Ham on Wednesday afternoon.

Curbishley, who played for the Hammers between 1975 and 1979, was the overwhelming favourite for the job after Alan Pardew was sacked on Monday.

The 49-year-old has taken his former Charlton coach Mervyn Day with him to Upton Park, while his assistant at The Valley, Keith Peacock, is already with West Ham having served under Pardew.

West Ham chairman Eggert Magnusson said: "I am absolutely delighted that Alan has agreed to join us. He’s a manager with a proven track record and a real love for the club.

"On behalf of everyone at West Ham, I welcome Alan and Mervyn - two of our former players - who are now back where they belong."

Curbishley has been out of football since he left The Valley after 11 years in sole charge at the end of last season.

He takes the reins at West Ham with the club lying in 18th place in the Premiership table.
