Bradley Dack was delighted to have scored Gillingham’s opening goal on Friday.
Dack struck with 12 minutes left, after coming off the bench, to put the Gills on course for three points against Tranmere Rovers.
“It was a brilliant feeling to have scored,” said the 20-year-old. “It’s indescribable, especially in an atmosphere like that. The fans were great and I am happy the gaffer brought me on and I got my chance.
“To score infront of the fans in the Rainham End was a brilliant feeling and hopefully there are many more goals to come.”
Describing the goal, he said: “It was a bit of instinct really. I saw the ball go down the left side and Westy put Joe Martin in. I thought I would make the run to the back post, he stood the cross up and it came over Cody’s head and I caught it nicely on the volley.
“Their centre half tried to block it on the line but he ended up deflecting it into the top corner.”
Dack got booked for his celebrations, after removing his shirt.
“I can take that on the chin,” he said.
“I didn’t know what to do (after scoring). The boys were giving me a bit of stick about it but it is one of those feeling when adrenalin takes over and I took my shirt off.
“It was a massive three points. After the first half, where we had a lot of chances, we probably should have been three or 4-0 up.
“We kept going and we were strong at the back as well and didn’t look like conceding. To get the two goals and win the game is brilliant for us.”
