Another defender remains on Peter Taylor’s wish-list but the Gills manager isn’t ignoring Callum Davies.
The 21-year-old barely got a look-in last season following Taylor’s arrival.
But Davies will be given an equal opportunity to prove his worth during a month of friendly fixtures.
“I still wouldn’t mind another defender around the place and that’s how we are looking at it,” said Taylor, who clinched the signing of centre-back John Egan on Thursday.
“I have also said that everyone who is here will be given a chance, simple as that. I expect everyone to come back and be fit and have a right go.
“To me, Callum didn’t get much of a chance with me last year, because when I came in, every match was so important, because of the position we were in and I went with Legge for the majority of the time.
“Callum now has a month to show me what he can do, which is good. He will get plenty of football in that month.
“It is up to people to show me what they can do.”
