DESPITE losing twice this weekend, the Invicta Dynamos competed well against higher-league Wightlink Raiders in the Premier Cup.

Away on the Raiders' small ice pad and without five senior players, the Mos lost 7-2 with man-of-the-match Peter Beerling and Mike Allaby scoring two cracking consolation goals.

On Sunday at the Gillingham Ice Bowl the contest was much closer, but the Raiders edged the game 5-3.

The home side took an early powerplay lead, man-of-the-match AJ Smith finishing after an Andy Smith shot rebounded in front of him. But the Raiders quickly re-gained focus and went ahead through Tony Blaize and Andy Pickles.

The second period saw the Mos punished for failing to take advantage of their last four powerplays as Raiders' captain Steve Gannaway made it 3-1.

At the beginning of the third period the Mos' Jaime Smith was floored by a nasty elbow, but despite protests it went unpunished.

Raiders were reduced to three men as they continued their rough tactics and Andy Smith put the puck in at 47.35.

A brilliant solo run and goal by AJ Smith tied up the game at 3-3, but Raiders finished strongly with two more goals.
