Invicta Dynamos 13 Telford Foxes 5

THE Gillingham-based Invicta Dynamos ice hockey team probably wish they could play Telford Wild Foxes every day.

At the weekend they met the lowly outfit for the third and fourth times this season and, on both occasions, reached double figures in the 'goals for' column.

But, as Dynamos coach Carl Greenhous explained after adding a 13-5 home win on Sunday to a 10-8 away triumph the previous day, these are the types of games the team has to avoid complacency in.

He said: "Before we pat ourselves on the back too much we have to acknowledge that Telford aren't one of the top teams in the league, but we have to win these games. A lot of teams tend to play down to the level of their opponents and that's something we had to avoid. We didn't want to let up in any way."

After a reasonably close game on Saturday, the Dynamos didn't let up the following day as they dominated from start to finish by winning all three periods.

The result was never in doubt after the home side had scored four times within eight minutes. Telford had barely had a touch before Matthew Beveridge netted the opener, Greenhous scored at 3:57, Peter Chard came off the bench to make it 3-0 at 5:12 before Peter Korff gave Dynamos a 4-0 lead.

Some credit must go to the visitors for trying to make a game of it and, although Beveridge scored his second of the match, two strikes from Johan Gille gave the Telford fans something to cheer about.

And when Daniel Mackriel netted the first of his three goals for the Wild Foxes within one minute of the re-start, an amazing turnaround could have been on the cards at just 5-3 down. However, Dynamos showed their professionalism by scoring three more times to put them out of sight.

The goals came from Michael Wales at 22:03, Jake French at 23:03 and Beveridge, who completed his hat-trick with a close range finish, at 25:08. French made it 9-3 and, although Wild Foxes forward Mackriel reduced the arrears, Duane Ward scored his first of the match and the team's 10th at the end of the second period.

Once again Telford scored at the start of the next period, but the home side ended the match in control as strikes from Beveridge, Chard and Sean Clement completed a satisfying win. Although Beveridge collected the player of the match award for his four goals, Greenhous was full of praise for his youngsters.

He said: "We put some of our younger players in the side and they performed well enough. We'll keep giving them some ice time now that we are mathematically eliminated from the cup.

"Adam Smith performed admirably. In his second weekend with the team, he has proved he deserves his place and we'll keep playing him."
