INVICTA Dynamos, the Gillingham-based ice hockey team, made it a double-winning weekend as they overcame Romford and Nottingham to kick start their season.

They won their first game on Saturday at the Ice Bowl as they overcame their old rivals Romford Raiders 4-2.

In the Raiders’ line-up was Sammi Mykkanen, the former Mo released at the end of September, who will have had a point to prove but so did new man Bruce Garrett who made his first start for Invicta.

Matt van der Velden was in top form early on as Romford started well but Matt Beveridge went close for Mos and a couple of other chances went begging and it wasn't long before they took the lead.

Sean Clement took the puck from Mykkanen and passed it to Michael Wales who in turn set-up Elliott Andrews, with Beveridge completing the move.

Both sides had powerplays but failed to convert before Mos went two-up at 17.47 with both teams down to four.

Elliott Andrews put the puck along the ground to beat Davidge from a pass by captain Phil Chard.

Despite Invicta’s dominance in the second period, it was Romford who got back into the game through Danny Marshall.

Beveridge got his second of the night after assists by Andrews and Wales at 43.45 and it was four on 44.00 when Paul Hume all but put the game beyond doubt

Mykkanen and Jake French both got two minutes for roughing after the former Mo tripped van der Velden in frustration.

Anthony Child scored late on for Romford but it wasn't enough.

On Sunday, Dynamos beat the struggling Nottingham Lions on their own ice 4-1.

In the first period, man of the match Paul Hume gave them the perfect start scoring on 5.57 and Peter Korff made it 2-0 on 14.43.

Stuart Bliss gave Nottingham a lifeline in the second period but, in the third, Andrews made it 3-1 on 41.06 and Beveridge made in a four-point weekend on 45.41.
