THE three days at Fenner’s proved to be very interesting as we opted to rest a few 'big guns' and give our youngsters an opportunity to show their worth.

Joe Denly and Neil Dexter really seized the opportunity producing special performances with the bat.

Denly scored two impressive centuries and Dexter a hundred and then an unbeaten 62, second time around. These two are full of talent and will put in many a fine performance for Kent in years to come.

In addition to their talent, both have good cricketing attitudes and huge appetites to learn and improve their play.

Prior to the match there had been a fair amount of discussion about young 16-year-old James Isles, who was making his first-class debut. His success at junior level is not only due to his size, but he also shows excellent bowling skills and control.

He is another quality product of the Kent Academy who owes much to academy director Paul Farbrace, who has put so much time and effort into developing so many of these young cricketers who are now emerging from the St Lawrence production line.

On the down side it, was disappointing to see more experienced Kent bowlers than Iles struggling to bowl the students out.

Our fringe bowlers need to learn to work as a unit and to collectively build pressure by consistently hitting the right areas with their deliveries.
