JEPSON: "...one or two people don’t deserve to keep their place in the team"

GILLINGHAM boss Ronnie Jepson heavily criticised his players after Saturday’s crushing 5-0 defeat at Carlisle and stressed: "People weren’t taking responsibility.

"They were sitting back and being dictated too, instead of grabbing the bull by the horns, getting in people’s faces, stopping crosses when they come in and getting their head on it. That’s just basic defending."

He stressed: “We’ll have to make changes after that because one or two people don’t deserve to keep their place in the team."

The manager had few arguments with Mark Bentley’s sending off in the 73rd minute and had little sympathy for the player.

He said: “I don’t know whether it’s through frustration but Mark Bentley’s on a yellow card and should know better.”
