GILLINGHAM’S under-fire defence got the thumbs up from boss Ronnie Jepson after Friday night’s trip to Northampton.

The Gills’ back-line, who up until recently had conceded more goals than any other in League 1, came within three minutes of a second successive clean sheet.

Jepson said: "I’ve got to give my boys credit for their defending.

"We always have a go at them, but Northampton threw everything in the box, long balls, high balls and from every angle. We got our head on it, put our foot in and defended admirably.

"Win, lose or draw, when we do things right and in the right manner then I’ve got no complaints."
