Ronnie Jepson has guided the club to League 1 safety over recent weeks
PAUL SCALLY: "The feel-good factor is back"

GILLINGHAM boss Ronnie Jepson has signed a contract to stay at Priestfield for another two years.

Since the 6-0 humiliation at Bristol City on March 18 the Gills have recorded six wins on the spin to end their relegation fears and climb to 11th place in the League 1 table.

The winning streak includes four victories against sides battling for promotion to the Championship.

Chairman Paul Scally handed Jepson the new contract several weeks ago but until now the pair had kept the news to themselves. Mr Scally was delighted to see the side continue their progress under Jepson’s management.

He said: "He’ll be here for the remainder of the season and two more. I’m delighted with what Ronnie and Mick Docherty are doing. The feel-good factor is back and it bodes well for the future."

Jepson’s assistant Docherty remains on a temporary deal, expiring in the summer, and his position will be reviewed at the end of the season.

Jepson himself is refusing to get carried away with the club's superb recent form.

He said: "The lads could have gone under after that Bristol City game but they’ve come back and shown courage. The way they’ve gone about it from one to 11 as a team is fantastic."
