GILLINGHAM manager Ronnie Jepson has vowed his team will stick together as they look to end a five-game winless streak on Saturday.

The Gills slipped to within two points of the relegation zone after last Saturday’s 3-1 home defeat to Scunthorpe.

But Jepson remains confident that his squad can turn their League 1 form around at home against Brentford at Priestfield.

He said: "The lads have responded well in training. We’ve had a good week and hopefully we’ll get a result on Saturday. We have to stick together, keep our spirits up and get through this sticky patch.

"We knew it was going to be a difficult period but I inherited this squad of players and I can’t add to it like I would want to in an ideal world. We’ll have to try and get to the end of the season and make amendments to the squad then.

"I love the challenge and it doesn’t faze me one little bit. I’m not trying to kid anyone, we all know the situation and it’s frustrating for the supporters and the players.

"If we get over this tricky period then it will put us in good stead for the future."

Jepson, who will have to contend without the suspended strikeforce of Darren Byfield and Neil Harris, could welcome back Matt Jarvis after a prolonged absence following a hernia operation.
