GILLINGHAM have completed the loan signing of midfielder Kevin Maher from Southend United.

The experienced midfielder, who spent 10 years with the Shrimpers, will be with the Gills until the end of the season.

Maher, who made over 400 appearances for Southend, will be available for Saturday's League 1 clash with Hartlepool.

Gills boss Mark Stimson said: "It is fantastic news that Kevin has finally signed for us.

"We have brought him in to add that extra bit of experience, which will be vital with the predicament we are in at the moment.

"He is an excellent passer of the ball, is very vocal and can read the game very well."
