GILLINGHAM'S goal-shy strikers are hoping to start hitting the net after a recent barren spell in which Andy Hessenthaler's men have managed just one goal in their last three games. Top scorer Marlon King, who hasn't scored since the win against Grimsby, is determined to add soon to his eight goals so far this season.

King said: "Any striker will tell you they don't know how they keep scoring, and they don't know either why they are not scoring. I will just keep going every game and hope the ball will start rolling again.

"Injuries have played their part, and the gaffer's had to change the front two, but we're not using that as an excuse.

"Bob Taylor is back at the club and he's got a proven goal-scoring record. The fans love him and we'll just have to see how it goes."

Taylor, who scored 39 goals in 70 appearances in his last spell at Priestfield, made his comeback in a Gills shirt as a substitute against Norwich and manager Andy Hessenthaler was pleased with what he saw.

He said: "Robert did okay. It's not easy coming on with 20 minutes to go and he showed some good touches. He almost scored with his first touch and he won his fair share of balls in the air. He's not fully fit but we've got him for three months. If we can get him fully fit and he starts scoring goals again, we know what he can do.

"He seems to be enjoying himself back here."

Meanwhile, assistant manager Richard Hill's personal hearing to answer a misconduct charge has been set for Thursday, November 1.

Gills' Independent Supporters Club are running an additional coach for the weekend's trip to Wimbledon, which will leave Hempstead Valley Shopping Centre at midday on Saturday.
