Tranmere 2 Gillingham 3
GILLINGHAM came back from two goals down to record only their second away win of the season.
Tranmere had stormed into a two goal lead inside the first five minutes, but a double from Gary Mulligan and a header by Ben Chorley put Gills ahead.
And Gillingham preserved the lead into the second half, despite Tranmere piling on the pressure, as Ronnie Jepson’s side recorded their first success on away soil since September 9.
Chris Greenacre had marked his 29th birthday with the opening goal inside two minutes when he turned home Chris Shuker’s cross.
And just three minutes later Gills keeper Dean Brill was beaten again, this time from Shuker, as his corner went directly into the net.
Gillingham were down but not out and Mulligan began the fight-back.
The Irish striker pulled one back on 11 minutes when the Tranmere defence failed to clear a cross, Andrew Crofts’ header came off the post and into the path of Mulligan, who finished from close range.
Mulligan’s second goal came minutes later, his seventh of the season, as another defensive lapse let him in to finish from three yards out.
Gillingham had even more cheer before the break, when three minutes before half-time Chorley rose high, to steer home Bas Savage’s cross.
Tranmere pushed in the second half put Gillingham held out and claimed a much needed away victory to and a run of four games without a win.
