Chris Hope is expecting a tough game

Doncaster v Gillingham

GILLINGHAM travel to Doncaster tonight aiming for a place in the last 16 of the League Cup.

The third round clash at Belle Vue follows wins over Oxford and Portsmouth in previous rounds.

Gillingham have yet to win on away soil this season and captain Chris Hope knows they’ll need to match Doncaster in all departments to get a result.

He said: "It’s always a tough game at Doncaster. It will be physical, they work hard as a team and are very solid. Like most teams in this division they’re quite well organised and we’ll have to match them."

Manager Neale Cooper remains unconvinced about his players’ performances and is looking for certain individuals to prove their worth.

"We’ve got a big game against Doncaster," said a frustrated Cooper. "We’ll see what kind of character the players show.

"I still feel one or two boys have still got to be mentally stronger and better when we have possession of the ball.

"At times you feel you’re talking them through the game and telling them exactly what to do. You can’t do that in football."

Danny Spiller is a major doubt for the match after twisting his ankle again in the game at Bradford on Saturday.
