GILLINGHAM’S poor form away from home continued as they suffered a two goal defeat at Yeovil.

Manager Ronnie Jepson was left frustrated once more as his side slipped up on the road for the third time in a week.

Goals from Leon Best and Chris Cohen sealed the win for the home side who put an end to a poor run of form.

Yeovil were handed their 17th minute opener on a plate when Leon Best ran onto Chris Chohen’s header forward and finished past debutante keeper Dean Brill with ease.

Brill, who was signed on a week’s emergency loan from Luton to cover for the injured Kelvin Jack, had little chance in saving the shot after the striker had broke clean through.

The defence had stood waiting for an off-side flag that never came and Best had plenty of time to score.

Gary Mulligan came close to levelling before the break but home keeper Stephen Mildenhall was equal to it.

Yeovil extended their lead on the hour when the defence failed to clear from a corner kick and Cohen smashed home from close range.

Gillingham battled in the last quarter and Clint Easton struck the post late on from a free-kick but the hosts hung on for a clean sheet and maximum points.

"I’m disappointed with the two goals," said Jepson. "The players have had a hard run with three games in just under the week and there might have been a bit of tiredness but you can’t switch off like that in games - especially away from home.

"It’s been a tough week for everybody involved and hopefully we can get a bit of time out on the training ground, put one or two things into perspective and get back at it again."

Gillingham: Brill, Jupp, Easton, Flynn (Ndumbu-Nsungu 64), Cox, Sancho, Chorley (Spiller 64), Bentley (Pouton 64), Crofts, Jarvis, Mulligan.
Subs not used: Jackman, Johnson.
Attendance: 4,933.
