Gorman: I’m happy at Gillingham

GILLINGHAM assistant boss John Gorman is growing tired of rumours linking him with a move away from The Priestfield.

His former colleague Glenn Hoddle was linked with the manager’s job at West Bromwich Albion before the appointment of Bryan Robson, sparking talk Gorman would follow.

Prior to Robson’s appointment the Scot, who was Hoddle’s number two at the 1998 World Cup, had said: “There's no smoke without fire. I'm really enjoying my time at Gillingham but if I was asked to join Glenn somewhere I would have to consider it.

“I'm my own man and don't need to work with Glenn, but we do have a good partnership."

And he has not ruled out the possibility of him applying for other management jobs should the right one become available.

He said: "I’m happy here, but if clubs are interested in me and come knocking Andy (Hessenthaler) understands. I’m not under contract and am entitled to consider my options.”

But after speculation surfaced on Thursday that Hoddle is now a target for Southampton chairman Rupert Lowe as a replacement for under-pressure Steve Wigley, Gorman has moved to quash any link before it is made.
