Green to defend her Boughton 10k title

A FIELD of around 300 is expected on Sunday for the Boughton 10k road race near Faversham. The event was due to have taken place in May but was postponed because of fears over the foot-and-mouth crisis.

A number of minor changes have been made to the route, but race director Angela Groombridge says the course remains a true test for athletes. She said: "One or two athletes have asked us about the changes and when we have told them they've said they don't think it makes the course any easier.

"When we made the deicison to postpone the event we wondered whether we would get the same support rom runners given it was later in the year. But in the past couple of weeks entries have really picked up."

Among those expected to run is last year's women's champion Andrea Green, from Dartford, the leading female road runner in the county.

Late entries will be accepted up to 10.30am on the day with fees, £7 for AAA affiliated athletes and £8 for the unattached.

Each finisher receives a medal and a banana.

The race gets under way at 11.30am and will be preceded at 10.30am by a children's fun run, which has categories for under-eights, under-12s and under-15s. Entry on the day is £3.
