GILLINGHAM manager Andy Hessenthaler admitted feeling a little relieved after his gamble of playing Nyron Nosworthy in attack paid off in the 1-0 home victory over Bradford City on Easter Monday.

Hessenthaler, who was without Rod Wallace, Tommy Johnson and long-term injury victim Marlon King, pondered giving youngster Jones Awuah a chance up front, before turning to his right wing-back to partner Mamady Sidibe.

Although Gills top scorer Paul Shaw netted the only goal of the game, Nosworthy came close to scoring on three or four occasions, as he caused the away defence plenty of problems.

The Gillingham manager explained: "I sat down and came up with nine or 10 teams to play but decided to play Nyron and thankfully it worked out.

"He caused City problems and I'm pleased for him, but he's played there before when Peter Taylor was in charge and he did well then.

"He's got bags of energy, power and is full of tricks and I thought that he and Mama Sidibe would cause them lots of problems and, thankfully, it worked out that way. He had a terrific game, other than scoring."
