NEW Gillingham hit-man Paul Shaw has warned that the club are still not out of the mire and could be sucked back into trouble just as quickly as they emerged from the doldrums.

Shaw, who is thriving in a purple patch with three goals from the last two games, sounded a note of caution as Gillingham surged into 12th place in the Nationwide League, Division One, and within striking distance of the play-off places.

"Six weeks ago we were in the bottom three," said Shaw. "And we know that if we have a bad run again we could be sucked back into it. We're eight unbeaten now and the longer the run goes on, the more people will come and watch us.

"But nobody here is complacent because we're all aware, especially in this division, just how quickly things can change. At the moment the pressure is off but the most important thing is that we keep this unbeaten run going so the pressure stays off."

Shaw, whose rejuvenated form has become a huge plus for the club, will be hoping fellow striker Robert Taylor can re-discover his fitness and goal touch as he prepares for a recall as replacement for the suspended Marlon King at Barnsley on Saturday. Taylor now looks certain to make a first start since his arrival back on loan from Wolves in October.
