IN WHAT should be a formality, the Gillingham-based Invicta Dynamos ice hockey team travel to Nottingham on Sunday to book their place in the final of the League Cup.

The Mos are 8-1 up from the first leg and only an upset of mammoth proportions will stop them getting to the final and a possible showdown against the old enemy, Romford Raiders.

Player coach Andy Hannah said: "We're playing very well as a team and only have Sean Clement (stomach upset) doubtful. Hopefully he will come through a late fitness test because we want to go to Nottingham and play as strongly as possible.

"We must keep up our good form as every game from now until the end of the season is a must win game. There's no room for any slip-ups so we will be working hard against the Lions and fully expect to come through as winners.

"Romford got an away win at Solihull in the other semi-final and take a 10-6 led into the decider so we want to be there if Romford make it through. That would be one exciting game with a great atmosphere and one that neither team would want to lose."

The date for the final, which will be played home and away, will not be announced until after the play-offs have been decided. If neither cup finalist reach the play-off final it will take place earlier but with the Mos looking for glory on both fronts the cup final may have to wait.

The Lions drew 6-6 against Solihull last weekend in the play-offs so will take some confidence from that result.

Lions' coach Matt Bradbury said: "As a spectator the Solihull match must have been a great game to watch. It was end to end stuff with never more than a goal between the sides, but for me it was a disappointment as we outshot them with 50 plus shots on goal.

"Now we've got to try and rectify the scoreline in the second leg of the cup against the Dynamos. It will be an almost impossible task to win and go through to the final, but it would be nice to close the seven-goal gap."
